Schellenberger Bürstenfabrik GmbH is Europe’s largest manufacturer of twisted wire brushes. No matter whether micro brushes with a diameter of 0.4 mm or larger calibres: Highest quality brushes leave our warehouse every day, which are manufactured by over 70 highly trained employees with our modern equipped plant according to specific requirements. Efficient processes combined with over 111 years of experience in brush manufacturing make our third-generation family business a highly efficient partner. This is confirmed not only by well-known German and international industrial companies, but also by independent testing institutes: the Schellenberger brush factory is certified according to DIN ISO EN 9001 and DIN ISO 13485.

We specialise in technical and medical brushes as well as brushes in die-cut design for industry and wholesale. The diversity of our product range is unique and also includes the production of individual, special or custom-made products. Death of the former managing director

Erwin Schellenberger passed away on 21.10.2018. It is thanks to his work that the company is now in its 4th generation. After his release from captivity in 1945, he stood before the ruins of the company and had not only the vision but also the courage to rebuild the company together with his brother Richard. We mourn the loss of a great entrepreneur, father and friend.

In 1985, Erwin Schellenberger, among others, founded the German Brush and Paintbrush Museum in Bechhofen. He contributed to the success of the museum through his many years of service.

Construction of special machines

Erwin Schellenberger, a trained mechanical engineer, designed machines that gave the brush factory a reputation as an innovative company in the years to come. Numerous orders could be accepted due to the resulting more efficient production.

Building up from nothing

At the end of the war, Erwin Schellenberger returned from captivity and, together with Richard, stood before the ruins of the brush factory. All the raw materials had been used up, all the machines destroyed. The brothers decided to rebuild the company and began to manufacture brushes and twisted brushes by hand.

Death of the company founder

Johann Schellenberger died unexpectedly on 16 August 1942. Maria Schellenberger continued to run the company with 200 employees until its destruction in 1945.

Expansion

Economic boom due to supplying the Reich’s army: At the beginning of the Second World War, 90 employees manufactured numerous products for the armaments industry. A new warehouse and another floor on top of the administration building were needed and built.

Brushes for the shoe industry

The product range of the brush factory (at that time still Johann Schellenberger KG) included brushes for the shoe industry, pharmaceutical brushes and adhesive brushes.

Master craftsman's examination for the brush-making trade

On 8 November 1913, Johann Schellenberger established a basis for his future company by passing the master craftsman’s examination.

Foundation of the Schellenberger Bürstenfabrik GmbH

Johann Schellenberger began his apprenticeship as a brush maker at the age of 21. At the workplace he got to know the art of brush making and his future wife Maria. A few months after their wedding, on 15 July 1907, he ambitiously registered his own business in the trade register of Bechhofen. Thereupon, the “medical-pharmaceutical brush factory” produced custom-made brushes of all kinds on Steindecker’s behalf.
